PRO VIETNAM AND TUOI TRE NEWSPAPER BRING ‘TET’ TO WASTE COLLECTORS

25/01/2026

To express gratitude for the silent contributions that help Ho Chi Minh City maintains its urban sanitation, on January 24, Tuoi Tre Newspaper and PRO Vietnam organized the event “Tet Yeu Thuong” (Loving Tet), sending Tet warmth and well wishes to waste collectors.

The organizer committee recognizes that informal waste collectors contribute significantly to urban sanitation. They are a crucial link in the environmental and recycling value chain, yet they are rarely mentioned by name or adequately considered in the stream of development.

“Tet Yeu Thuong” is an acknowledgment, a word of gratitude, and a sincere sharing from society dedicated to them. The organizing committee hopes to bring a warmer Tet and a more joyful atmosphere to informal waste collectors.

Tuoi Tre newspaper and PRO Vietnam also affirmed that on the journey towards a green and sustainable Vietnam, every policy, every green economic model, or circular economy model only truly holds meaning when people are placed at the center.

Over half a century of formation and development, we have gone through many stages of the country, from the years of hardship to the period of renovation (Đổi Mới), integration, and development.

Throughout that journey, we have always carried a persistent belief that the country’s development is not only created by great things but is also built up daily by ordinary, silent, yet immensely valuable people.

As the co-organizer, a representative of the Packaging Recycling Organization Vietnam (PRO Vietnam) stated that over the past six years, PRO Vietnam has been steadfast in its mission to build a sustainable packaging circular economy model in Vietnam, contributing to a green, clean, and beautiful Vietnam.

“We understand that no macro-strategy or modern technology can operate effectively without the waste collection force, especially the informal waste collection force in Ho Chi Minh City, who are the ‘silent but indispensable factors’ in the waste collection and recycling operational chain.

You are the ones who help turn waste into resources, ensuring packaging does not become an environmental burden but returns to the production cycle. Your work is part of the foundation that helps relevant parties implement Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) practically and sustainably,” stated the PRO Vietnam representative.

A Year-End Party for 300 Informal Waste Collectors

“Tet Yeu Thuong”, jointly organized by Tuoi Tre newspaper and PRO Vietnam, took place at Van Thanh Tourist Area on the afternoon of January 24, with the participation of over 300 informal waste collectors in the city.

Within the framework of the program, besides the cozy year-end dinner, the organizing committee also handed out practical Tết gifts and spread the message “Live Green – Live Kindly – Live Lovingly” through performances, sharing sessions, and a fun lucky draw session.
